I work for a large apple orchard company.  We rent about 800 hives each spring.
We are planning to get into pollination on a small scale, mainly for flexibility to bring a few hives in early or leave late etc.

I am trying to decide whether to use deeps or mediums.  If I use 2 mediums, will that be a large enough hive to be a appropriate pollinating unit or do I need to figure on 2 deeps?

Also, I see pallets with screened bottoms.  Does that work well?  Crazy question: what if you just left the screen off and had it open on the bottom?

Best wishes, Bill Sharp
