In my (limited) experience they will fly out at far too low temps (-8C)
and quickly die in the snow.  Up to 100/day
I don't think I've seen any ccd hives with more than 1 cup corpses ON BB
Sometimes a very small cluster, frozen in place, not starved
Clearly they do not all reach the "flee stage" at the same time
