I doubt heat was the culprit.  I have never seen a hive abscond due to
heat.  I have seen HUGE beards outside the hive, the bees hang on the
porch, but I have never seen in my 40+ beekeeping years bees abscond due to
heat.  Note, I am in upstate NY where heat is rarely excessive, although
today will be the hottest day of the year with a heat index approaching
100dF.

Aaron Morris - thinking I'll go look for absconding hives, or perhaps go
swimming....
