My question is:
What's the best way for a new beekeeper such as myself
to move the bees I have now form the 10-frame deeps to the 8-frame medium
equipment
WITHOUT losing bees & the queen in the process.

You did not give your location but if you live in an area with winter you
can make an adapter with a hole the size of the 8 frame. let the bees move
upward into the 8 frame equipment (during the summer) and then the next 
spring when the 10 frame
is empty remove the 10 frame box.



In summer if you want to move the bees faster into 8 frame then you need to
shook the bees out in front or into the 8 frame after catching the queen and
then release the queen into the 8 frame equipment. make an adapter for the 8
frame to 10 frame above (piece of plywood works good) and then place the 10 
frame box
with brood ( less bees and queen )on top of the 8 frame for the brood to
hatch using a queen excluder to prevent the queen from moving up. some bees
will move up but others will remain with the queen which will start laying
eggs below. As the emerging happens above and the laying increases below the 
bees will return below.once the brood has hatched remove the 10 frame box( 
26 days ).

there are many ways but the above I have seen most often used.
