I think you have understood my question. Threshold has to consider cost benefit analyses. This model will vary based on region/location, operation size and time of the year.

Of course if you can afford to monitor every hive in a reasonable time and treat specific colonies with high mite levels it will be good. However we have also to consider the other options for large operations. In my recommendations I use something like what PLB use. If a percentage of the colonies in the yard or operation reaches the threshold, the whole yard or operation needs to be treated. Keep in mind in Alberta we have about 300000 hives and 97.5% if these hives in the hands of 125 beekeepers. Thus on average a beekeeper is running 2400 hives. This is already call and temperature has changed so fast.

Therefore this type of condition forces us to take  into consideration when we make decision for treatments.
