You will reduce the inside temp significantly if you raise the telescoping cover to allow for free air flow underneath it.  Just place 4 bricks or 4 pieces of 2x4's bet. the inner and telescoping cover.  I would also reduce the inner cover hole to 25-50% of its normal size.
