Ladies and gentlemen
I am living in the Netherlands (near Amsterdam) where I have 3 hives. The
honeyflow comes mostly from Oilseed-rape and Phacelia. Like everybody here
(6000 hobbiests) I have to do with the Varroa mites.
Last two years I experimented with powdered Thymol to destroy more than 95 %
(?) of the mites. I do it after inwintering (when there is no more brood of
the bees, I hope). It seems succesfull, but I realise this premature
conclusion is far from scientific.
I was wondering whether anybody out there has any experience with Varroa
mites infection and/or Thymol or other chemicals. Any comments are most
welcome.
Best wishes for 1996.
