My experience (before deciding to use ammonium nitrate, for sure a much
secure and faster method) was that acceptance depended more on the nuc than
on the age of the v.queen.

If the nuc was just made a couple of hour before, with frames of more than
one colony, they will readly accept the v.queen when walked in by the
entrance. however if the nuc was more than a day old and worst if it was
made with frames of only one colony it was very difficult for the v.queen to
be accepted.
