I have heard differing opinions regarding how well colonies will do their
first year when starting a new hive with packaged bees vs a nuclei.

I have been told by one experienced beekeeper that packaged bees will do
better than hives started from nuclei.

Does anyone know of any actual research reports that I could refer to that
discuss this subject?

thanks
