Here is the setup we use for pumping syrup.  Powered by a 5HP Honda "trash" 
pump.  The "T" in the line before the pump was used as an intake when 
filling the bulk tank but we now use the boom on the 5 ton truck to empty 
barrels directly into the tank.  Dismantling the pump for cleanup is easily 
done to prevent corrosion of the seals from the syrup.  A ball valve is used 
at the end of the feeder hose and there is negligible pressure buildup 
between fillings and no bypass was necessary.
