Tim,
Just to keep it simple so that all can understand. Each drone is the son of the mother queen, he has no father (sire) but he does have a grandfather (grandsire).  No two drones are genetically identical, but the spermatozoa produced by a drone are all genetically identical.  This is why it is important in bee breeding to have inbred queens for the production of drones.  Hope this makes things easier for you to understand.
