When varroa was about to arrive in the UK, our National Bee Unit looked at 
drifting.  They marked many bees in their home apiary and then went looking 
for them in hives in the surrounding district. As I recall, they found them 
all over the area.  I suspect that the Devon group will find drones many 
miles away.
