I don't want our list mothers or any individual poster to be at risk of
prosecution, no matter how theoretical....it seems not to be worth the
risk.

It certainly seems that the US is heavier-handed in this area than the UK -
the list owner of my journalists' list has just emailed me to say he sees
no problem at all in including articles in email form, as long as they are
sourced correctly. In fact we often do share articles in this way on our
list....including ones from the WP and the NYT. So far no one has been
after us, but there's always a first time....: 0

I suppose we shouldn't underestimate the theoretrical might of a gi-normous
publishing company, who one day might have nothing better to do with its
gazillions of dollars than to take legal action against a private,
educational, non-commercial mailing list for infringement of
copyright.....one never knows : ) I'm not really joking - stranger things
have happened, and even getting a lawyer's letter wouldn't be fun for
anyone.

But I do think the people who posted the articles were trying to offer a
service, and might well take offence at the idea they were 'stealing'.
Legally, maybe, morally....no.
