James Tobin writes about CB:

I had a chance to sample Thielemann's DG recording. If the melting
beauty of the "Dulcissime" serves as your CB bellwether, I don't think
Thielemann's soprano would cut it--she sounds like she's been waitin'
for a *very* long time--her stratospheric lines are very rushed and
declamitory. I thought Solome walked into the room.

I'm partial to the Blomstedt/SF with Lynne Dawson--very nice Dulcissime,
and great recording! The performance sounds fresh to my ears because of
the excellent percussion section--rhythms are very articulate and bass drum
and gong are palpable on my big 18-inchers. And where else could you find
a Carmina sung and played with more authority than in San Francisco?:)
