I think that the crossover phenomenon has no impact on the world of
classical music.  It's simply a business move to maximize the profits from
particular artists.  It does have the potential to take scarce resources
away from classical music but also can add to those resources.  Crossing
over will always be with us as long as "profit" is a basic component of
business decision making.  We might not like that fact, but overall, I
don't see any route that's an improvement.
