Olympia has recorded much Shebalin orchestral/symphonic music.  Recently,
they issued volume 1 of his string quartets.  I don't have any Shebalin
recordings although I've heard a little of his symphonic output on sound
samples; none of it sounded forbidding.

Any opinions on the quality of Shebalin's music?  Shostakovich and Vainberg
would be good reference points for me.
