One man's long-winded and tiresome is another man's detailed and
interesting. I've been a Gramophone reader since the early 60s but
its standards have slipped very noticeably over the last few years. My
particular annoyance is the mini-review which is often of minimal value,
but even the longer reviews seem to have become shorter, if you see what I
mean. I still buy it from habit but I can read all I want to in an hour or
two, and the major interest is the list of new releases, and there are
sources for those on the web. Even in terms of the cost of the magazine -
and in standards as well - Fanfare's in front for me.
