Trouble is, Bob, it does have precisely this negative effect - a bit like
telling somebody you think their child is ugly.
The fact that it is only the assertion of your opinion doesn't make it any
less hurtful or destructive - perhaps the reverse, here, as you claim a
kind of naive innocence in justification of your right to come out with it.
By the way, I'm glad you like "Oberon", but sorry you take the
penny-in-the-slot liner-note posture and fail to give credit to Planche's
perfectly good libretto in the English semi-opera tradition, one which
focussed Weber's mind sufficiently to enable him to write some
fantastically memorable music.
