"Study lends weight to breast-feeding's slimming effect on kids."
Study of 9,357 children. Several factors that could have skewed the results
were controlled for.
Study findings:
1. Infants given only breastmilk until they were 3-5 months old were more
than a third less likely to be obese at age 5-6 years.
2. Those breastfed exclusively for 6 months to a year were 43% less likely to
be obese.
3. Breastfeeding beyond the one year gave children 72% lower chance of
becoming obese.
4. Even some breastmilk proved better than none. Those BF for one or two
months were 10% less likely to be obese at age 5 05 6.
5. Besides being more likely to be obese, bottle-fed children also had a
greater chance of being simply overweight by school age.
