In an earlier post, I wrote of Osmo Vanska's CD of Sibelius's Lemminkainen
Legends:

>>As the CD runs nearly 80', that might be enough to make the
>>temptation irresistible.

Jon Lewis, understandably incredulous, asked:

>Is that 80 minutes for JUST the 4 Legends?! If so these original
>versions must be much much longer than the final ones!

No, sorry I gave that impression. To clear up the confusion and perhaps
give you a basis for comparison, the CD contains:

Lemminkainen and the Maidens of the Island 15:12
The Swan of Tuonela 9:27
Lemminkainen in Tuonela 17:41 (yes, it's slow but IMHO, it works!)
Lemminkainen's Homeward Journey 6:27

Lemminkainen and the Maidens of the Island (original version) 14:24
Lemminkainen's Homeward Journey (original version) 11:23 (longer because
there's quite a lot of material JS later discarded)

Two very brief appendices totalling about 3:00.
