This is a work I tend to prefer on period instruments. The best I've heard
is Weil on Sony with Vera Beths(sp?); the coupling is Beethoven's fifth
piano concerto.

I have been waiting to get my hands on a newer period instrument version,
Zehetmair/Bruggen on Philips. To my surprise, Gramophone gives it the top
recommendation for the violin concerto. That is odd considering that the
magazine should not have a HIP bias and all the outstanding modern
instrument accounts that are available. Has anyone heard the Zehetmair,
and is it that good?
