As the original writer of the piece on "Gilbert and Sullivan and the Gender
Wars", I'd like to thank Andrew Carlan for so kindly posting it to this
list with which I was not acquainted. Fascinating! I note in rereading
my missive, that I did not communicate my shock of sudden enlightenment
and realization at the Princess Ida performance on hearing the words "Let
Chaos come again", that radical feminism, or any radicalism, aims at the
destruction of the existing order to permit chaos to come, out of which may
come a new and better order, or perhaps no order at all. Changing gears
from G&S to Wagner, isn't that the question at the end of the Ring--the old
order has been overthrown, chaos has come, a new day dawns, but what will
take its place other than the rule of raw nature now that the gold is back
in the Rhine?
