My thanks to Patrick Enander for mentioning the Decca recording by
the Vienna Octet.  I hadn't responded to this thread because I couldn't
remember for the life of me the name of the group.  I bought this recording
many years ago; I think it was coupled with a Mozart "light" piece, either
a serenade or divertimento.

Anyways, at one point I was comparing the Vienna Octet to St. Martins on
Chandos and a HIP recording.  What really struck me was how idiomatic the
Vienna Octet recording was.  Easily the best of the three.
