It's no surprise that some discomfort crops up, as well as the usual
gratification, when a group gets together to discuss music. A composer and
his music, brought to life through a favorite performance, can sometimes be
one's longest standing friend and confidante; a lover, so to speak.

To find that someone else might prefer a different performance of a
favorite piece is like discovering that your first love has cheated but
worse--you learn that she can present herself in a different light and
elicit different responses than the ones you had always considered
appropriate and right.
