I find it reflects what I understand to have been Voltaire's intentions
very accurately.  I studied Candide for A level about 300 years ago and
discovered the Bernstein piece a few years later.  It is probably my
favorite piece of LB's and I believe it to be stunningly successful.

But then if we were all the same, wouldn't it be a boring old world?
