My recording of the Saint-Saens Third Symphony (just coming to a
conclusion as I write) is an old (1973?) recording by the Orchestra of
Radio Luxembourg under Louis de Froment. A nice recording but it lacks
oomph! at the vital juncture when the organ announces its participation
in the third movement with a crashing (D major?) sustained chord. On this
disc it is more of a whimper than a bang, so I'm wondering what listers
would recommend as a companion recording.

I wouldn't be without this one -- it also includes a good rendition
of the Second as well as the wonderfully enigmatic Henry VIII 'Ballet
Divertissement.'
