I had a similar experience a few years ago when Welser-Moest conducted the
St. Louis Symphony.  I have never found the SLSO to sound bombastic, but
I found Welser-Moest brought precision, detail, and an overall refinement
to the SLSO.  This single experience contrast to other opinions on the
list, who see Welser-Moest's appointment to the Cleveland as a let down.
