That crafty son of a gun Don Satz <[log in to unmask]> writes:

>Perhaps one day we will see a cd of a Beethoven symphony coupled with a
>few duets from Janet Jackson and her brother; designate the disc in the
>classical category and watch annual sales of classical cds skyrocket. You
>never know what an industrious marketing specialist might come up with.
>Peter Gelb could at this very moment be thinking of a recording ploy that
>would curl your hair.

Nothing that goes on camouflaged by the Muse would surprise me anymore.
I had my doubts based on the rotten fruit of classical music beginning in
the 60s with that Carrion crowd. It was more than confirmed by Lebrecht's
book, all the smut I thought likely and then some.

But here's the black art of classical management put to good use. And what
makes the deception even more delightful to contemplate is that it steals
the thunder of this hideous Visogoth invasion known as pop music to plunge
the knife a little way into it.

I say we ought to stop being prim and prissy. Here's to war. Let's raise
the flag and fight like partisans in enemy country. What glorious fun it
would be for us aging stiffs to do real battle with the enemy instead of
writing books and essays and talking to each other esoterically.

Great idea. I vote we buy SONY stock and elect Satz CEO of its classical
music division.
