The nearest I can think of is the story TB tells in the legendary
"Beecham in Rehearsal" LP:

   "I went to the Cup Final.  In the days before I indiscreetly let
   it be known that my sympathies were with Manchester United, and, of
   course, Bolton Wanderers won.  On the day of the match I received a
   letter from Bolton Wanderers reminding me that I was the Chairman,
   not only of the musical society but of the football club.  How do
   you get out of that?"
