I think of Weber as more akin to Beethoven; Weber's symphonies reimind me
of Beethoven's first two.

To me, Hummel is a much simpler composer than Weber.  The melodic
development of Hummel's works are more straight-forward and immediately
accessible, but they don't have the enduring quality that Weber provides.
To put it another way, Hummel is a better choice when you are doing
something else while listening to music.

Overall, I prefer Weber to Hummel.  Weber's operas and chamber works are
the genres I find particularly satisfying.
