Richard is being too modest. For what it's worth, I have a crumpled piece
of paper whoch states that I earned a degree in Economics. Personally, I
think it's a boring field when taken in large doses. Now I'm in the field
of real estate; that's equally uplifting, but it does pay better.
From the financial end, the basic difference between a reissue and a new
disc is that all aspects of the performance for recording purposes have
already been accomplished. So, it's a win-win situation. The record
companies make a profit, and buyers can get some great recordings at low
price. There is one "downside" for the companies; reissues dampen the sale
of new recordings. I feel real bad about that.
