This appeared in The Times this morning.

   Anyway, when did the decency of an author have any relevance to the
   greatness of his work? In 1836 The Quarterly Review claimed that "a
   baser, meaner, filthier scoundrel never polluted society more than
   Monsieur Balzac".

Would this exclude Balzac from a list of great authors?

And Wagner?
