Patrik Enander responded to Jonathan Ellis:

>>To prefer the piano for this monumental work is to fly in the face

>Excuse me if I sound hostile, but I think these arguments are crap. This

>the world vs HIP.?

I've heard of Hip vs. Non-HIP, never HIP vs. the rest of the world.
There is no "rest of the world" concerning this issue.

>Even if Jonathan obviously thinks this is great music I think that the
>remarks above reflect a point of view that limits our possibility to
>appreciate this lovely music.

Jonathan was not trying to limit anything or anyone. In his posting, he
clearly stated his enjoyment of particular piano versions. Jonathan was
stating his position that the fullest appreciation of the Goldberg
Variations was through harpsichord.

I enjoy both Patrik's and Jonathan's postings. From what each of them
has written, it's clear to me that they both enjoy harpsichord and piano
versions of GV; so do I. There's common ground aplenty.

>I would probably enjoy it if someone whistled it while slapping
>their knees.

More common ground.
