Just found the new recording of Nielsen's 4th and 5th w/Jukka-Pekka Saraste
in Tower outlet for $5.99. A reviewer in the magazine, Stereo Review, was
quite taken by both performances and, if I remember right, felt that they
were the best he had ever heard of these symphonies. (I was not impressed
w/ Jukka's Sibelius)

I got turned on to Nielsen after listening to Jim Sveda's Record Shelf
radio program devoted to the composer's music. (An excerpt played
highlighting Bernstein's way with the snare-drum stuff in the 5th symphony
was truly hair-raising, but I heard it too long ago to make an accurate
comparison.)

Should I consider myself lucky?

John Smyth
