Steve Schwartz wrote concerning the Nimbus recording he reviewed:

>The sound is acceptable.

In a sense, I regret taking this one snippet out of Steve's thorough and
excellent review of the Schmidt string quartet disc on Nimbus. But, I
fully agree with his review comments and am somewhat surprised with his
assessment of the sound.

I found the sound excellent, although not of demonstration quality. Could
Steve just provide a little more detail concerning his perception of the
sound?

I enjoy the string quartets of Schmidt, Pfitzner, Schoeck, etc. They have
beautiful tonal melodies, but are mixed with a level of dissonance that I
find compelling. It's that late romantic sound world.
