I doubt it, nor do I think they should be, although I am no lawyer. (If I
were, I'm not sure I would admit it.) The two situations are not entirely
analogous. In the case of an all-girl band, it is likely that these were
female musicians who wanted to form an ensemble with each other, with no
subsequent hiring anticipated down the line. Also, if I am correct about
this, not all discrimination is illegal, nor should it be. If a job for
which one's gender is a legitimate qualification, then such discrimination
would be not only legal, but necessary. Examples of this would be
theatrical roles, modelling, sperm/egg donors, and I think that any
all-female vocal ensemble would fall under that category, since, after
all, they wish to produce female voices. This would apply not only to
an all-girl band, but a female choir, for example.
