Walter Klien (Vox) belongs to these "authorities".  His tempo is also
something like 56-58.  I'd say that the most important word in "andante
cantabile" is rather "cantabile" then "andante".  In other words - and
there have already been numerous threads on this subject - tempo is a very
relative concept.
