Judy,

You might contact Herman Ronnenberg -- <[log in to unmask]). He's
published
a couple histories of western breweries, and knows what historical
archaeology
is all about.

Subject: Brewery Information

The California Department of Transportation is proposing a project that
might impact the remains of the Mountain Brewery, established in 1852 in
the gold mining town of Placerville. I'm looking for information on 19th
century, particularly western, breweries. Especially research issues
which archaeological evidence might help address. Any references would be
appreciated. Thanks.
