For some reason or other I often find comfort and security in confident
chorales.

Some specific comforting music:

Schuetz--Latin Magnificat
         Psalms 23 & 136 from "Psalmen Davids"
Concerto Vocale "Ich werde nicht Sterben"

Monteverdi--Vespers of 1610
Act I of "Orfeo" (even though I do know what is going to
             happen in Act II)

R. Strauss--"Die Frau Ohne Schatten," end of Act I

Beethoven--Quartet in a minor, op. 132
           Quartet in F, op. 135
Piano Sonata in A-flat, op. 109
Piano Sonata in E, op. 110

Webern--Cantatas

J. S. Bach--Chorales from Cantatas #1 & # 147

Schubert--Symphony #5

For victorious comfort:

Rachmaninoff--Symphony #2
Bruckner--Symphony #7
          Symphony #8
Mahler--Symphony #2
        Symphony #3
        Symphony #5
Tchaikovsky--Serenade for Strings
             Symphony #5

Note that this list is by no means exhaustive.
