If you can get any of the old Bach Guild recordings (they usually feature
Viennese performers) go for them!  Not HIP, sometimes a bit "romantic," but
often quite powerful.  Some of the old German Kantate label recordings are
also worth a gander, as are Karl Richter's.  Avoid at all cost the abysmal
Harnoncourt recordings--apart from the voice of Kurt Equiluz they have
little to recommend themselves.
