I have a distinct recollection of a comment a friend made regarding
Mahler's 8th.  After listening to numerous recordings of this gargantuan
work, he said; "I think the only recording of this symphony to have is the
one with Kubelik.  He goes so fast, the symphony is over sooner." I think,
in fact, Kubelik's version is one of the only versions on one disc.
