I have been wondering for a while whether there were "classical" composers
and orchestras (in the European sense) in Trinidad and, more generally, the
West Indies. Well, I know that there are composers in Cuba, the Dominican
Republic and Puerto Rico, but I could not trace any in Trinidad, Barbados
or any other country of the region. For instance, is there any symphony
composed by a Trinidadian composer? Here I am rather thinking of symphonies
for conventional orchestras, but if there are such works for steel-bands,
I would also be interested, since I heard quite impressive renditions of
Beethoven and Tchaikovsky by such ensembles on the French radio.

Thanking you in advance,

Thanh-Tam Le
