Denis Lessard has a friend who cannot remember his "version of Bach's
Brandenburgische

>Concertos [LPs from] the early seventies. Was on DG, but not
>Richter on Archiv.

Might this be the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Herbert von Karajan?
This 2-LP set (DG 2726 080) is actually from 1965, not the 1970s. I bought
mine in '77, since vinyl albums were often around for years -- unlike CDs,
which labels seem curiously eager to delete with all haste.

This exhuberant rendering was re-released in 1992 on two CDs (DG 437
461-2) which also include the Orchestral Suites #2 and 3. Karajan's
anything-but-HIP version is blessed with a driving, even muscular rhythm
section. I used to play it to friends who thought they couldn't stand
classical. They did come back, mind you, and often asked to rehear my
"allegro music," full blast.

Might this set be the one DL's friend was wondering about?
