FULL-TIME POSITION
PROJECT SUPERVISOR
Center for Archaeological Research
Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, Missouri
 
The Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) is an expanding contract
and research organization affiliated with Southwest Missouri State
University. The CAR currently has a full-time permanent staff of seven
and a relatively large number of support personnel. CAR staff are
principally engaged in contract archaeology projects in Missouri, and to
a lesser extent, adjacent states.
 
GENERAL FUNCTION: The Project Supervisor is responsible for preparing
draft budgets and technical proposals, directing small to medium size
archaeological survey and testing projects, supervising artifact
analyses and writing technical reports. The Project Supervisor shall
also assist other principal investigators of large archaeological
projects when and where deemed necessary by the director.
 
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology or a
related field is required. A Master s degree is preferred.
 
Experience: At least one year of experience in contract archaeology
working with a university/college, private firm, and/or government
agency is required. Experience in preparing archaeological reports is
required.
 
Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills are required along
with excellent interpersonal skills, supervisory experience, functional
knowledge of personal computers and proven report preparation skills.
Research specialization in zooarchaeology is desired.
 
Other: Scope of position will require some out-of-town trips and
occasional evening and weekend work. Position also may entail some
strenuous physical labor.
 
SALARY AND BENEFITS: A salary of $22,880-27,040 depending on experience
and skills. Full benefits package is available.
