After several cups of coffee I have sobered up. One of the big
methodological problems is tying in sequences of medieval deeds with
maps and deeds of the last 100 or 200 years. Often there is a gap
between. A lot depends on the type of documents available in your town.
I have always worked on places with awful deed collections though after
10 years work on Leicester I finally managed to trace back a building
from modern deeds to the late medieval period this year and even managed
to find a 1685 room by room probate inventory for it. However, it was
formerly a guild hall not an ordinary house.
