Lucy:

Still sounds like lustre to me.  The bright blue banding on a hard paste
redware is a dead giveaway.  Also, the very dark brown color you're seeing on
the exterior is most likely the clear glaze over the dark red brown paste,
rather than the addition of any other pigment or slip.
