Phil Hudson's two brief sentences address an important point. Given the
amount of material culture found in North America that was made
in Britain (last time I checked Staffordshire was still in the UK
rather than the USA, although perhaps somebody purchased it and moved it
to
a desert in Arizona - you never know), surely British involvement would
have
a lot to contribute to the proposed series. After all, whatever prior
failings
British post-medieval archaeology may have had on the theoretical front,
it has always been strong on the identification front. Also, given that
recent SHA newsletters (particularly the president's column) have
stressed the increasingly international nature of the society, surely
this would be an opportunity to put that into practice.
