I guess I should have been more specific in my original post. I am
working on a 106 project that includes a World War II radar site. Research
at the National Archives has yielded a series of plans, including an
as-built, that matches the current building layout. All buildings are
present, right down to the 5 foot by 5 foot guard houses. I know that the
radar was an SCR270c. I know when the site was acquired, when buildings
were constructed, when the land was sold after the war, etc. This site was
part of the east coast defense network that stretched from southern Maine to
just below Norfolk, Va. A total of 23 radar sites were included in this
network. Eleven of these were permanent installations, including the one I
am dealing with.
With all of the research I have done, what I still don't know is if any
of these have been recorded elsewhere, either through archaeological or
architectural formats. Am I cutting new trails here or is there some work
out there that I can follow, use, and add to to help understand the cultural
and historical value of the site I am dealing with. I would appreciate
hearing about archaeological site reports and architectural studies on the
east coast dealing with World War II sites.
Thank you
Ed Otter
