Here is some more info on the Mount Holyoke project that Ellen mentioned:
The contact is Patricia Mangan ([log in to unmask]) who has taught an
Archaeology of Mary Lyon's New England class in which students have
excavated the area of the Seminary Building. The Seminary Building was
destroyed by fire in 1896, but had been used as the primary instruction
and dormitory building for Mount Holyoke Female Seminary since 1837.
Students have excavated a kitchen midden and foundation areas near the
rear of the seminary building. The artifacts are being housed in the
Mount Holyoke College Archives, and questions regarding the history of the
Seminary and the College should be directed there.
