Cindy wrote that she was in the process of developing a multi-county bf task
force and I have some suggestions.
New York State developed a state-wide committee when the state received a
grant to promote breastfeeding. The Committee comprised about 25 plus people
and included Dept of Health and Education personnel, the WIC breastfeeding
coordiantor, LaLeche leaders, hospital based lactation coordinators, certified
lactation consultants, childbirth educators, nurse-managers, dietitians,
physicians, both obstetricians & pediatricians and breastfeeding advocates.
The group was given several tasks and broke into groups to develop materials,
devise strategies, etc. The strength of the group was that many people became
invested in the process and, in turn, involved their individual groups,&
organizations.
There were expenses, especially when the group came together two times a year
in a face to face review of the progress of the groups.
All of us learned from each other. Unfortunately, when the grant funding was
over, so was the Committee. We are working to bring it to life again.
